When Donna came back to us for a second commission, we knew this one had to be something special.

This 42" black walnut cabinet was designed and built for Donna's Louisiana home — a repeat client whose trust in our craft we don't take lightly. The brief was simple: a sideboard-scale cabinet that could anchor her dining room without overwhelming it. What the wood had to say turned out to be anything but simple.

The door fronts are cut from a single live edge black walnut slab featuring dramatic natural burl figuring — the kind of swirling, organic grain pattern that takes decades to develop and can never be replicated. Bookmatched across both doors, the figuring reads as one continuous landscape when closed, with the live edge voids and burl knots flowing seamlessly from left panel to right. The walnut top carries its own story — tight cathedral grain with the shimmer and depth that only comes from a hand-selected, solid slab.

Brass tapered legs and brass knob hardware were chosen to complement the warm amber tones of the walnut without competing with the wood's natural drama. The cabinet interior is finished in matching walnut with adjustable solid walnut shelving — clean, considered, and practical.

At 42" wide, 36" tall, and 20" deep, the proportions were specified precisely to fit Donna's space — a reminder that every dimension in a custom piece is a decision, not a default.

Delivered to Louisiana via White Glove courier, fully assembled.
